BELVIDERE BYPASS
U.S. Business 20 from the State Street/Appleton Road intersection to U.S. 20 in Belvidere
As a part of the Rebuild Illinois Capital Plan, the Illinois Department of Transportation has initiated a Phase I, Preliminary Engineering and Environmental Study for improvements to approximately 4.5 miles of U.S. Business 20 in Belvidere in Boone County.
This section, commonly known as the Jim Gang Memorial Bypass, begins at the intersection of State Street and North Appleton Road and extents to east and south to the intersection of U.S. 20 and Genoa Road. Funding for a portion of this improvement is included in IDOT’s Proposed Multi-Year Highway Improvement.

Launched in May 2022, Phase I is expected to conclude in 2025
WHERE:
Beginning at the intersection of State Street and North Appleton Road, the 4.5 mile study area extends to the east and south to the intersection of U.S. 20 and Genoa Road in Belvidere in Boone County
WHY:
Transportation improvements, from road resurfacing to construction of a new eastbound bridge over the Kiswaukee River and a new multi-use bicycle and pedestrian path are being studied to improve the infrastructure in the study area
